Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

just wondering if there are any Butch Taylor-wannabes out there? It would be nice to get some "piano-licks" up on the site...or any site...just something to play around with. It's not that hard to be jammin' like Butch...maybe we could put something together?
for example...listen to two step and long black veil on Listener Supported...great stuff...

I play the piano, and have since I was four, and while it may not be hard to goof around on piano, let me tell you that it IS hard to "be jammin like Butch." I do a LOT of improv stuff and (this is going to sound REALLY arrogant) I'm really pretty good at it. But I don't play like Butch. Trust me when I say it's hard. He's got a REALLY good command of different blues and modal scales, and he's able to really fly through stuff. He's an EXCELLENT pianist, and puts some musicians in the band to shame. In fact, he and Carter are probably the best of the bunch, at least when Butch does play.

you're very right! he is excellent and I am nowhere near his skills...
What I meant was really that it is easy too goof around a little and make it sound
pretty good...at least if you've been playing for a while.
As you said...he is DAMN good.
But back to my question...wouldn't it be nice to have som piano on the site? It wouldn't be 'official' but still...something to play with...exchange ideas...?

you mean like sheet music for what Butch does?? That would be REALLY hard to figure out, and I don't have the time for that at all. In terms of having some piano stuff on the site, I don't have a piano I could mic or a keyboard, but hopefully will do some recording in the near future with a piano. But I'm all up for discussion about the piano. It's a great instrument.

I think Butch is all-improv (for the most part - he won't play the same thing twice for a song), so trying to sheet his music would not be very fruitful...

well it doesn't have to be sheet music of what Butch plays...
But maybe we could put together som sheet music of what he could be playing...or what ever sounds good? Maybe too much work...but still..it would be fun...
notations would be good for singers-to-be also...

Everybody always asks me how she's doing. Has she really lost her mind? I said "I couldn't tell you, I've lost mine."
