Victor Wooten

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

victor wooten is sick. marcus miller is good i understand people who say that miller has more groove and whatnot to him. however, it should be noted that weve never really heard victor in a true groove-type situation. i mean, as a flecktone hes more than just the bassline, hes part of the melody as well and not many of their songs are condusive to the archtypical "groove" of bass. i think he can definately groove like hell. not saying miller doesnt groove better, but still.

victor will always be my number one jaw-dropper-put-you-back-into-your-place-when-you-feel-like-you-are-good-er

i don't really think so, he wrote a lot of scores before getting acknowledged as a bassist, and the first person he recorded with was miles davis. so from the beginning he's quite a bigger name.
?
wait kahn, impressed that he made it on there, or impressed that vh1 would put him on there.
? I don't think that's what Kahn was impressed with.

silver rain is boring sans his cover of boogie on reggae woman.

i think wooten can groove like a mofo. it's incredible. miller is great too. but i don't like his originals too much, i don't know.

miller writes actual like song songs. and wooten seems to do like really long bass solos. like if you compared cell phone with la villette. ya. but it's all a matter of oppinion. i just got way to bored of wooten.

meh...i dont look to bass players' solo stuff to find good "song songs"...marcus or vic or someone can lay down a sweet bassline to someone elses song, or just jam around it, but when it comes to writing song songs, please. leave it out.

Silver Rain is great, Bruce Lee is the quintessential solo bass song, it's a perfect mix of lead bass and groove.

I love a lot of Vic's stuff, though some of it is kind of boring/overly cheesy. It's all better live though. If I could do what Vic does, I'd put it in my songs too. Obviously he knows how to groove, that's what being a bass player is. You can't bitch and be like, oh marcus grooves better and vic doesn't. That's crap, if you put both of them in the same band setting, they both would be more than able to hold down the low end, easily. The Flecktones is a setting where Vic can solo freely whenever he wants, and given his skill level, he should be able to do so. And Vic solo is... Vic solo. What more do you want? A bass player has relatively limited resources when writing songs using only 4 strings, I give him a lot of credit.

And Manring is recockulous. Does anyone have Soliloquy?
