Gibson SG Special- Thoughts?

Unread post by ut4ever8 » Tue Sep 09, 2008 6:22 am

A guy I know is getting rid of his SG Special to get a Les Paul. He said he'd give it to me for 400, its in good condition. I just wanted to know what everyone else thought about this guitar for that price. Does that sound reasonable, really good or really bad?

$400 is a pretty good price as long as it's a GIBSON SG and not an Epi. SG's sound pretty good too, albeit the Special isn't going to sound as great as some of the higher models. Make sure you play it and take a look at the condition to check and see if you like the playability of the SG.

I like the Specials (Gibson not Epi) and they are a really good deal. 400 is pretty outstanding if its in good shape. One thing to consider is string spacing. While i love the look and sound of the guitar, the strings are pretty close together. It's why I eventually went with a Tele because it was a much more natural transition from acoustic.

However, if you have nimble fingers (I do not) it is easier to get around the fret board.

So play it and if you like it, buy it.

Thanks. I've actually been wanting to get a tele for a while. What kind do you have. Mexican or American Made?

I picked up a '94 Mexican for 200 bucks. Put in some better pickups, changed my pickguard. She plays like a dream. My next upgrade is going to be a bigsby tremolo.
