loop station pedal thingies

Unread post by seth_southerland » Tue Oct 03, 2006 10:26 am

i found that the boss rc-20 loop station is what i'm looking for, but then a guy told me that you can get such things with usb ports for use of recording whatever is played onto a computer/flash drive

do you guys know of one that will do all of the things that the rc-20 can do, plus having a usb port for the recording purpose?

Thanks for your input.

But I must warn you, I played one of these before I bought my RC-20XL and The Boss is alllllllot better in my opinion. Unless you really need the usb, get the boss.

EDIT - And the boss is cheaper by about 50$.

i also want to get one that does the echoes and the wahs and special effects stuff, is that a separate piece of hardware that would do that?

is there one that does both the looping and all the cool effects things?

the Dl-4 has a good delay effect that can be used while looping

Yeah, the DL4 has a plethora of delays on it but it only has 28 seconds of loop time, which, in my experience is plenty just for jamming around. I love my DL4 but it doesnt have a way to connect to a computer via USB. If you can swing it, just get a USB recording interface ( I think M-Audio makes one for 99 that has two inputs ) That way you can record just about anything including microphones.

Here, looks like they have some refurbished dl4's for 179, thats a great deal!

Here's the M-Audio thingy

alright, i've been looking around, and i've found things that do the stuff that i'd like to be able to do. My question is now if there would be any redundancy in getting these things.

Boss RC-20XL for it's looping ability
Boss DD-20 for it's delaying ability
and some effects processor such as the Boss GT-6

I know that these are all Boss products, but they are the company I'm most familiar with and am more likely to buy products of.

I really know very little when it comes to these things so any help/tips/advice/etc that can be given would be appreciated.

Are you planning on running this setup with a acoustic or electric guitar? I think the GT-6 might not sound too great with an acoustic.

acoustic mainly because i don't have an electric yet (this xmas maybe) but i want to get stuff first to use with my martin

i was also curious if this kind of stuff could be used with both acoustic and electric, or if i could get some that would work with both would also be convenient

is there a website that explains what all of these things do? i hate to keep asking what are probably noob questions

My advice is avoide multi effects pedals at all costs, they really are a hassle when compared to single pedals. Boss, imo, makes the best stuff, but i really like their individual pedals waaaaaay more than the multieffect pedals.

What kind of sounds are you trying to get out of your guitar?

My advice is to check out the virtual pedal board at bossusa.com. Say you dont know what a flanger sounds like, you can select the flanger and hear a sample.

If you are into trippy sounds, all you really need is a volume pedal that can also double as a wah, and a delay pedal, you can spend hours making crazy noises.

Also, that boss delay pedal seems like a lot of overkill when a DD-3 or even a DD-6 would do just fine.

I Just started looking into a delay petal. Ya know those DD-20's are only about 20$ more expensive than a DD-6 and it has soooo many more options. They look like a nice buy.

Although I have never used one of these, I hear these Boomerangs are pretty nice. I think there is actually a guy in the general guitar forum trying to sell one of these.

the boss rc-20xl looks like the one i'll go after, the boomerand is too expensive

the boss isn't cheap either but it's still much cheaper than the boomerang

i wonder if someone could make some sample audio clips of what the different kinds of pedals do, like flanger, phaser, compression...all that stuff, i found a page saying what those things do, but it didn't show what it made music sound like which is really what i would like to know
