Bookmatched Guitar Wood

Unread post by Taylor614 » Sun Aug 27, 2006 6:16 pm

I was flipping through a 4 year old Martin catalog that I have and it says that the D-16GT has "bookmatched" mahogany. What does bookmatched mean? I've seen this term before, but never knew what it meant. I always thought it was a fancy name for laminate. Hopefully someone can help me out.
My guitars:
Taylor 714
Taylor 614ce
Martin Sigma DR-41
Epiphone Chet Atkins SST (Ebony)
Danelectro 56-U2 reissue
Fender American Deluxe Strat
Fender Aerodyne Telecaster
BC Rich Eagle Custom

bokmatched means that both halves of the top or back are cut from the same piece of wood so the grain of the wood is symetrical across the backstrip or topline
