So, it seems we strayed from the topic at hand and that is why the other thread is locked...It also could be because of a fag named Gcom that wanted to spread his gay tendencies throughout the board and jkanter wouldnt have that . In any event, if you havent already read the last thread, read down below and tell me what you think...and i would appreciate gcom not posting because the guys here arent really into the gay thing, sorry man...

OK, so I'm wondering when this shit is gonna happen...I was also thinking that because this contest is based on "best guitarist", I was curious as to how it will be judged. I mean is the guy that has all the effects bullshit and programs and yada yada yada gonna have the edge over someone that doesnt have the money to buy that equipment? To me, it should be like just guitar and vocals and thats it; and if you want to record over 6 times so theres 6 guitars going at once, thats fine with me i guess. But all this shit like underwater effects and thunder and wah wah and mixing on the computer or however the hell you do it, is that really what makes the guitarist? Leave all that shit to hiphoppers and rappers(people with no musical talent,lol)...I mean granted tim reynolds does use effects, but we all have heard him with just his acoustic and know that he's a badass and doesn't have anything to hide using all those effects stuff...I would like to hear some of yall "good guitar players" with just acoustic guitar and singing and that's it...then we will be able to tell if there's a good guitarist behind all that computerized stuff...in some of these songs i have heard, i cant even tell where the hell the guitar even is because of all the other crap going on. You get my respect when you sit down and play and sing your acoustic guitar and thats it...anyone else feel the same way?

no, not exactly, just trying to point out that in today's world they don't put up with people who feel the need to degrade other people for race or their sexuality or whatnot. And to be honest, I do take offense to it. I am not gay, nor do I support the act, however I'm not about to judge someone over it and I have friends who are gay. I'm not the best one to talk lately about my choice of words, but you continually cross the line and honestly, I'm sick of it. You don't need to drag that type of thing into this. Your point would be firmly accomplished with a simple idiot or whatnot, but all you're doing is the following: showing you must have some insecurity about yourself, degrading people who are different, and just overall showing how immature you are, so cut it.

OK, man sorrry about the gay thing...I do not have anyway of being actually certain about it...I do have gay friends too as a matter of fact...You just think you know a whole lot more about music and theory and whats good and bla bla bla for your britches...somebody that was a better musician than you(probably pretty much everyone you run in to...most likely your teacher or local "best guitarist in your area"), told you that dave wasnt that great of a musician so then you gotta come to all the dave message boards and right when someone says dave is really great, you jump on that and say," Jonh Mayer's better," with your tongue sticking out...if you're gonna preach how daves not that good of a musician, then get the hell out of the dave message boards, use your friggin head man...I think Dave is a god damn musical genius...and in my opinion "I" think from what I have heard that he is the best musician ever as far as creativity. So lets make a treaty and you get out of this thread and every other one i post up, and I'll stay out of yours(I'm Shaking Too Much :cry:

first of all...i agree with gcom about the needles swearing and sensless child-banter...anyone can say "naughty" words, but you can get your point across much better without trash talk between every other verb or noun...

also...best musician creativity wise!?!?!?
you cant say that withought knowing bands like YES or CAMEL...
its your opinion...whatever you think...

i think dave is one of the best, but i dont worship the ground he walks on...

dmbfanjason, while it's your opinion that Dave is the greatest creative genius ever, it's my opinion that anyone who thinks that either needs to have their head examined, go outside a little more often, or listen to a little more music. I don't mean that offensively, and I think it's something that needs to be said. You can go ahead and have your delusional opinions about Dave and worship the ground he walks on, but at the same time you need to be able to at least show a little respect for the opinions of others. If you demand respect, you must give it also. And I don't care about who started it. I don't know who did, but come on, it should be easy enough to stop it.

the thing is I never said dave was bad, I just said he's nowhere near the best. I love DMB and they're one of my favorite bands, but that doesn't change the fact that there are just better bands out there and far more talented musicians and even, gasp, songwriters! It just drives me nuts when people act like Dave is God's gift to music...

well, tico, who do you think is the greatest musician? well, before you answer, you need to go get your head examined...In My Opinion of course...you see I look at everything objectively because I dont know dick about music theory and just go on what sounds the best...Dave sounds the best to me, what can I say?...there are not a lot of musicians like dave out there man, at least that i have heard...well, none...i have heard phish and flecktones and yada yada, and i was impressed, yea, but they werent as good as dave, man...and I wasn't impressed at all really by the way John Mayer writes songs because they sound like all the rest, like yours tico...not to diss your music because its a whole lot better than i could do right now, but it sounds like a lot of other artists...the same. You can tell you've studied music theory and stuff...I would like to hear you do a dave cover though...I think it would be great...anyway, check you later.

ummm, jason, your post about how you judge music would be the definition of SUBJECTIVITY, and NOT objectivity. And I'm sorry, but Mayer does not sound like everyone else, and you honor me far too much in saying that I sound like him. You want to talk about real musicians, let's talk about Beethoveen, Chopin, Debussy. Want something a little more recent? Try Wagner or Tchaikowski. Want a performer and not a composer? Try Ray Brown, Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, Itzahk Pearlman. You want better song writers? Try Carole King, James Taylor, Dylan, Joni Mitchell. You want better guitarists? Try Stevie Ray Vaughn, Paco de Lucia, Steve Vai. This comes from a guy who has lived in Latin America for a good chunk of his life and therefore has nowhere near the musical exposure of some of the people on these boards. You can't get pissed at people because they realize there are better musicians than Dave.
