Howie Day cover - So Sorry

Unread post by Xoosh » Tue Feb 25, 2003 11:47 am

this one was done all one track without multi tracking (DL4 stuff), let me know how it sounds, it was a test to see if it works for live performances... if my voice sucks, tell me where.

Xoosh...

your cover of So Sorry was, i must say, one of the best covers ive heard here (but dont worry guys...99% of the covers here are great anyways! Not only did u stick true to the song, but you also added ur own improvisation, which made it all the more pleasant to listen to (i am currently listening to it now for my fourth time).

Keep on bringing these covers on Xoosh--your quite talented.

im so glad i finally get to hear your voice xoosh

why have you been hiding it for so long? its GOOD

i must say that it sounds nothing like i imagined seeing your picture in your avatar

it was good, (the song) but i dont really care for the song
you did a good job of covering it though

i would suggest working on dramatic changes in voice
this is one of the reasons dave is so king
he can go from really high to really low in a heartbeat

practice practice practice and some of changes will sound a lot better
youre a hell of a lot better singer than me though

good work

keep singin!
Everybody always asks me how she's doing. Has she really lost her mind? I said "I couldn't tell you, I've lost mine."

That was awesome, your jam is incredible and I like this version better than Howie Day's. Congratulations on an awesome cover. Do you have any of your own stuff, if so I'd love to hear it.

Ok....I loved the guitar parts. You did that all live with the DL4? I can't wait to get mine so I can do some looping.

Your voice is a great voice but for this song I didn't think it fit. I had a hard time with your voice with THIS PARTICULAR SONG. They didn't match up. I don't know how to put that in proper terms. (This is IMO)

I really enjoyed it though. You can use the DL4 quite well and made me excited to get mine!

Peace,

Rammer788, i have lots of my own music you can check it out at http://www.eastofbeautiful.com/music.html (it's all non vocals though, i've been writing acoustic "jazz"),

I must say im quite surprised at the response... heh i thought it was a mediocre cover that needed a whole lot of work :) im pleasantly surprised.

As for the guitar / vocal mix, since they were done at the same time (the multi tracking guitar was done with the DL4) it was easy to mess up so i didnt throw in solo stuff during the main part of the song like howie usually does... and for the vocal comments, i agree about changing my voice, i want to work on this song a lot more before i perform it...

regards, all

well, I'm quite impressed with your voice......you should have let us hear it a long time ago! I think this is a great recording...........but twords the end before the jam (which was killer) I kept hearing like percussive sounds that sounded like they were not supposed to be there, like maybe hitting your guitar or some sort of something.......I don't really know how to describe it....anyways, the voice could be a little strong on the higher notes of the song, but I don't think there is much you can do to improve this.....great job!

agreed. also, the guitar part sounds to me like it could use some work, the strumming pattern sounds awkward. comparing it to the original, it sounds like you're using too much muting, there are times when you should let that chord ring. i really like the jam though, you did a great job with that. just some of my thoughts...

Wow, that was a good cover...but when you sing "you really didn't know"...the guitar sounds a bit off...I do agree that your voice is great, but not quite matching this song...a bit too deep for it I guess...

i liked your version more than ole howies. i always skip it because it seems almost too dramatic (the singing). its like he's goin for it way too much. for the song(lyrics and what have you), your version seemed to fit better. the guitar seemed fine to me. i did hear that percussion near the end. didnt take away from it though. the jam was awesome. and the overall sound of it is awesome. my tape recorder that i put my stuff in would make dave sound crappy. good job.

the vocals are quite good xoosh...they did seem a little out of tune from time to time, but I was impressed...anyway...this song...why???

It's just a bunch of chords...from what I heard...i listened to about the first 2 minutes....you did very well on it though, for what it was...Let's hear some more..."with vocals"...late.
