My 1st two songs, please be nice :)

Unread post by jseymour_va » Thu Feb 20, 2003 6:42 pm

Remember I've been playing for a year and 1/2. I have an original song and ants marching. I plugged a mic into my sound card and recorded. Working on Tripping Billies now.

Thanks,

well......your rhythm is pretty off on Ants, and your singing is pretty monotone.....It sounds like your adding in extra notes on the verse, which if you meant to do it, then ok.......but if not, It sounds akward. Work on your singing cause your range is rather small, and I'll bet you can sing a whole lot higher than you are on this song. I think you have the main jist, it just needs a few tweaks here and there.....Listen to Dave and tim recordings for the rhythm changes, and especially listen for the melody he sings.

On your original song, it seems like the chord progression could use some work, it's interesting but also sounds akward, and your singing is pretty much just following the chord progression, especially at the beginning you just going up and down with the chords, which dosen't lend itself to sounding musically interesting. The guitar sounds really good, but I would work on the melody, just to make it a little more intersting.

Good first effort.

Whats the deal?????? Theres no way the two songs I just posted can be better than his. I have only been playing a year and a half also. And if anyone gave him bad feedback then they are idiots. It takes a lot of time to get good. I sound like I just started playing. If people gave him bad feedback then they have huuuuuuuge egos or have never picked up a guitar in their lifetime. I give him a lot of credit, I cannot sing and play at the same time, its totally out of my league and I've been playing as long as him. So everyone needs to layoff, because listening to others is what makes all of us better, because we realize we have a lot of the same mistakes in common. So common James, lets hear em!!!!!

I hope he didn't think I was giving him bad feedback.....I was just telling him the truth.......I think it takes alot of balls to post your stuff to the public and I definetly give him props for that.....there were are few rhythm issues, but that can be fixed. Big deal.......I hope he didn't take them down for what I said.....It was a good first effort.

Nope, not at all Greg! Your feedback was great, honest and in no way harmful. I just posted them to get some feedback from other people that play the same type of music as I. None of my friends listen to Dave and everybody I know that plays a guitar seems to dislike his music. So I can't really find any good feedback. Thanks for all the info and I went out and got the L@LC Cd and I can already pick out heaps of things I'm doing wrong. I will play around with this cd and try Ants Marching again. I will post it again to get your feedback, hopefully I will improve some :?

dude, it;s the way the world works man...if you're good or awesome people say"you need work"...if you are bad, then it is safe for them to say "good job" because they know in their little minds that they are better...it makes it "safe" to give critiques....
