My first two crappy recordings

Unread post by Speenis » Wed Feb 19, 2003 7:30 pm

I have only been playin guitar for a little bit, and have recorded two songs on my acoustic. Big Eyed Fish and The Warmth by Incubus. The Warmth has some elec. in it too. I screwed up on that part and I should not have it in there but oh well. The timing of the regular song with electric is much faster than the acoustic version and combining them was retarded but I did it anyway. Big Eyed Fish was the first song I ever learned and I recorded it in pieces because I couldn't play it all the way through. The transition tripped me up a lot and it shows. Anyway, The Warmth was the first song I learned to play all the way through so it could use some work like Big Eyed Fish. I just wanna know what you guys think. There are some obvious things that need work which I already know but feel that listing them now would take too long and add more length to my post.

So, here they are

I am not sure those links work right now. I just set up a site and it says it is temporarily down but will be back up in an hour. It might just be me but whatever, try back in an hour.

I got clean acoustic and it is also very very sweet. My fav was the warmth so thats why I did it. Also check out A Certain Shade of Green, and incredible song. And Summer Romance (Anti-gravity love song). Those are my favs. I might check out the tab to clean, I know the intro but thats it.

The link works, you just need to right click and hit "Save Target As" and it will download. Can't wait to listen to them.

For your first two recordings they were alright. Try not to make it sound so forced. Just let it flow so to speak. I just listened to BEF, i'm not much of an incubus fan, so forgive me if I pass on that one though. You inspired me to do my own BEF cover though. Thanks, keep up the good work. Lets hear some more buddy.

While im thinking about it, what are the last tabs in BEF after he goes "No way" and he is singing (in a unrealistic high pitch) "Out of here"

I think the first part goes something like
E:-2--2-?
B:-3--3-?
G:-2--3-?
D:-------?
A:-------?
E:-------?

IN regards to BEF, you've got the notes down and obviously you can tell it's Big Eyed Fish, but I agree with the other post that there is room for it to flow a bit better. I think if you were to give it more feel in your strumming/muting it would definitely give some more life to the song. Nice job on the sound....the recording itself is very clear.......the guitar sounds good. Just my 2 cents...hope that helps.

I only listened to theincubus cover...you seemed to be forcing the strumming a little to me...just let it out and have fun...

...but what do I know anyways...thats just my not very skilled opinion...

Ok....you know HOW to play the songs. You know the chords and the notes well but your rythm needs some work. This will come with practice so you know you will have these songs sounding great.

Your guitar sounds good and your recording is just fine.

Peace, (the Incubus cover should be up by tonight  )

yeah, I just listened to your BEF and, like cave said, you know how to play the song and you even have that cool violin part plucked out on the guitar. Your timing is right on, so now you can work on giving your stums more flavor instead of just one down strum per beat or whatever it was. Have fun with it. the strumming isn't gonna sound like Dave at first but with practice, you'll get better at mixing the up strums with the downs strums and substituting in percussive slaps instead of strums. The quality was very good on the recording and the guitar was in tune  and it sounded good and clean. Keep it up!

peace,
Ken
good, and you?
