My TB cover

Unread post by juineaux » Wed Feb 12, 2003 11:13 pm

Ok, well here it is in all of its rough and tumble glory. I just recorded this about an hour ago and im not quite sure how it sounds. I tend to forget alot of the parts to songs. Im not used to really playing too many covers. I decided to add a little improv lead to it and...well tell me what you think. Thanks :)

great stuff....i love the lead guitar...that was the best part....i think it will get lots of votes depending whether or not the voters like the fact that has it's own flavour to it.....

i like that it does...but many do not.....

Excellent job.

Peace,

Oh shut up. Just because he's not a fuckin human copy machine...I swear. Thats just a lame thing to say.

I like your cover. Your vocals have a real bluesy feel to them, and I liked how you added a little flavor to the song. WAY better than someone just trying to mimic a cd I could put in that sounds better.

The only thing I might suggest is going a little softer on the lead stuff in the future...less is more sometimes, you know?

Hey thanks :D
I figure there is no way i am going to sound as good as Dave so i might as well sound like me. Ill try to go a little lighter on the lead. The lead is actually a mandolin, which is really easy and really hard(at the same time) to lead with to this song. :? either way it was alot of fun to record. If you listen closely you can probably hear my parents talking about some 60 minutes show. Gotta love the living room studio

Dont get me wrong, I really like the mandolin. I think it works better for small fills after the vocals though, as opposed to playing during them. The end jam with it is killer...its just that some parts sound...crowded? The 1:08 mark in particular. It sounds good far more often than it doesnt though. Again, great job.

Youre definitely in the contest...these people dont understand that a cover is not always (at least when performed by a musician as opposed to a guitar player) an attempt at a carbon copy of the original.

Im sorry, but to say that this was not tripping billies means you have your head up you ass. By this kind of thinking, Hendrix's watchtower definitely was not watchtower. Cause you know, it didnt really sound like the way dylan played it. right.

Dude, lighten up a bit. I don't see DMBJ's comments as such a bad thing. The fact is, it didn't sound like TB at first, that's all. But there's no mistaking that this guy can play. I can appreciate a good cover whether it's exact or improvised, especially when the playing and singing is so good. And this was very good. I would agree with other comments that a little less of the mandolin would really improve an already well-played song. Nice work.

Sorry if I overreacted a bit. But I just get tired of people actually giving less credibility to someone with some creativity.

As far as being able to tell if its TB or not, I admit the intro is different. But after that, to say that you cant tell its TB at all comes off more insulting than anything else, especially considering the source.

all i can say is that your voice is like nothing IVE heard
do you sound like that when you talk normally?
its not an insult its a compliment, i like your voice very much

i also respect that you add your own spice to the song
a would have added a little spice myself if only i had more time

good work
you might just get my vote
