Unread post by gravesRR7 » Sun May 02, 2004 2:23 pm

I don't know if if really cared for the intro too much but the rest of the song was alright. It got better with time too. Overal, pretty good cover
I'll play it first and tell you what it is later.

i liked the intro...but it needed work. it sounded forced a little bit. especially with the mute strumming. keep your hand moving. don't stop. and just accent every 2 counts or so. experiment with that, but your scattin was nice. shoop ah ta pa, o, saka, shoop a tah pah, o, brrrrrr. lol

I was going to do a cover as well, just didn't have time to learn it yet...I can't learn fast enough yet.

For YOUR cover...I gotta disagree and say I liked the cover, nothing wrong with it at all. Nice, job on the high notes, those can be tricky. I might be nit-picking and i'm definently not one to talk but around 2:45 you sounded a little bit off-key, it was barely even noticeable and I could be wrong no doubt. Even if there had been more entries I think you would have had a good shot man, good work!

Firstly, mad props and all that for recording it.

The guitar was great ... definitely a strong point for you.

The singing ... not so much. :)

Also, the intro with mute strumming by itself is a bit long.

Keep practicing and I bet you'll start getting in key. There's no way you can play like that and be tone deaf :)

Wow. thanks all so much for the feedback.
i agree that the guitar was the highlight of the cover. the singing was a bit off-key in areas. that song isn't the easiest to sing. there are some songs that i can pull of the vocals very nicely, and i found this song to be a bit of a challenge vocally

anyone have any suggestions for how to improve the singing? probobly just practice eh?

also i held back a little bit, i was in my dorm room and i was a bit weary of beliting out some yells. so i held back. maybe that cost me some vocal quality.

once again. thanks for the comments.
more advice is welcome

It sounded like you were holdin' back ... Try practicing singing without playing ... just sing a cappella for a while ... when you can sing it in key throughout in a way that you like, then you can add the guitar back in and you'll be kicking ass :)

I LOVED THE INTRO that was awesome dude, minarets is a very hard song to pull of and you did it quite well all around

yeah i strummed the bridge. i don't really know how to explain the rythm, for the first few notes i'm doing down up, but then i just do all down strumms, i think.....i tried to mimic the first bridge that dave does on luther college, that one bridge (the first one) is so cool on that cd.
