you really just need to start over with the tapping section. the bassline is completely lacking, you can't hear it at all, and all you can hear melody-wise is just ringing open strings.praisedave wrote:um... im not sure what you mean by clean. post a clip.Teego Time wrote:Good fucking job dude. That's way cleaner than I could play it right now. I'm very impressed with the phunky part.
As far as advice on the tapping: Remember, in this song the pull off is almost more important than the hammer on. Justin's getting a lot of his sound from the pull of in this song at least. I find that if I flick my finger EVER SO SLIGHTLY downward when I pull off, it tends to ring the open string (or the note that I have my finger on further up the neck) moreso. It'll help fill all the space there with sound, that way you'll be able to play it slower.
But again, good fucking job man. Care to give any insight on how you got the rest to sound so damn clean? Especially the fast part.
as i said in previous threads, the slap section was my main incentive to learn this song and i spent a grear deal of time tryin to perfect that.
EDIT: alright heres a clip i did real fast. http://s44.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=312F ... N01M4Z34A1
the tapping part comes through much louder on my chet because of the light strings and the lower action. where specifically is the rythm off? (i achknowledge that it is)
and not to be a nag, but it should actually be easier to tap on thicker strings. lighter strings dont produce nearly as much volume as thick ones
and your rhythm isn't necessarily off, just awkward. on the chordal section, you manage to come back to the D7 on the downbeat of the measure, but then it just seems like you are sporatically playing rhythms after the 1st beat. try to make your rhythmical ideas a little more clear rather than just throwing something out there and hope that we get what you meant to do. oh, and you do tend to rush the tempo in the chord section, i suggest practicing with a metronome
well ill learn it while tapping the bass notes, that makes it much cleaner.fatjack wrote:you really just need to start over with the tapping section. the bassline is completely lacking, you can't hear it at all, and all you can hear melody-wise is just ringing open strings.praisedave wrote:um... im not sure what you mean by clean. post a clip.Teego Time wrote:Good fucking job dude. i dont know what the norm is but for me the tapping sounds just as loud on on unamplified chet as it does on my acoustic... but what you said makes sense because its primarily a bass technique... whateva.
im workin on the tappin the bass note thing... and im still having troulble with the strumming rythm i guess because i play along with his vid all the time and what i do seems to fit. ill try the metronome.
thanks for the help

I've been practicing it a bit, and I noticed it helps if you bring your elbow lower and almost line your forearm up with the strings of the guitar, then it's all in the wrist. I dunno, maybe the trick is just isolating the wrist movement. I noticed that when I do it in the mirror, my entire arm is moving which IMO = bad.praisedave wrote:i cant do the flamenco strumming. i didnt even really try to learn. its freakin nutsTeego Time wrote:I wish I could get that crazy strumming down.
