Is it plugged in ?

Check your control panels sound settings , the level meter for input might be turned all the way down ....

I'm going to go off the assumption that you're running Windows XP. If not, it's similar, but it might be a little different.

start --> all programs --> accessories --> entertainment --> volume control.

Click in the options menu, make sure that "advanced controls" is checked. Once that's been verified, look under "Microphone" in the control and click Advanced. Under "Other Controls", check "Microphone Gain (+20dB)". Hit Close, then make sure that the "Microphone" slider and the "Volume control" slider are all the way up. See if that works. Also, just to make sure, the microphone should be in the red jack.

my friend told me to do that too. it won't let me do that. in the options menu, advanced has a check next to it already, but its like that grey dim thing (ya know, where it won't let you click it) what the hell?!?!

you are banned from recording digitally if you cant even find your mic control in sound accessories... if you cant find the slider bar that says mic (you have to check it off to be displayed in that window) then you're pure screwed.

i'll actually try and print something upfor you tonight if you cant figure it out by then... gotta run to class.

The problem's been resolved, it was a bad cord in the microphone.
