What's the difference
What's the difference
Can someone please explain to me the difference between the fallowing
Martin D-35
Martin OM-35
Martin HD 28
I will be buying one in the year and I have played all three before but I still can't really pinpoint which is best. Perhaps anyone who has one of these three can point me in the right direction.
Besides the fact that they look different which is the best for a rythm player like myself?

dmbtabs, welcome to it.
no one can really tell you which is better for you. And if you have to ask... ...I really dont think you need to be spending that much money on a guitar that you can't even identify the differences.
Me personally, I LOVE the D-35.
I didnt like the HD-28 that much, but around here (dmbtabs) it is one of the most popular/well liked guitars.
Nw why would you be shopping for the HD-28 and the D-35? why not the HD-35 if you like the herringbone? just curious.
I'm pretty sure Timmy used a modified 1995 D-35 on the old D&T tours.
the OM will give a pretty different sound than the others. go back and play them again and listen.

Well I am very familiar with the D-35. I love the sound. I'm honestly not familiar with the OM style except that it is smaller and not compfortible for me to play really. I guess it comes down to the D-35 or the HD 28. So to focus more..What does the HD 28 have. What is unique about it's sound. I have 3 guitars already and want to make sure #4 will be the right one for a very long time. I do a lot of research before I buy. Figured that you all might know about the HD 28.
Thanks for the welcome!

btu do you like the herringbone or not? cause i think both of those guitars come in either HD or D. so i thought it was strange you are shopping for one model in the D and one in the HD.
that is somethign i'd decide first, then chose between the two models after that.

Just play them all and pick the one you like the most. Also, you sure you want to spend this much on a guitar, and that you deffinatley want/need a Martin? You sound a little inexperienced by your initial posts to be buying a $1,500.00+ guitar
Also, check out http://www.elderly.com/ and http://www.buffalobrosguitars.com/ for prices.

OM style body is more fingerstyle/lighter strumming than a dreadnought body. The OM will overlaod more easily with heavy strumming, but pronounces indivdually picked notes better. i personally play an OM, but in the future will probably add a dread to the arsenal.
note: this isn't to say that you can't do both on both, for example bluegrass players pretty much all use dreadnaught body styles and they do a combo pick/strum. An John Mayer has a signature Martin that he strums on as well (also uses for picking songs and songs like why georgia). So try out the guitars side by side if possible, figure out which style you play more of or prefer, and go that route.

Claptons new sig model is an OM also. I personally dont like them that much, i dont like the feel and the sound doesnt do much for me personally.
The HD-28 seems to be everyone's favorite aquirable guitar around here, but in my short experience playing these guitars, the D-35 just felt so god damn good in my hands and it seemed like my complete lack of skill dissapeared. no fret buzz, i was playing without thinkign and everythin gjust sounded so damn good.
the specific sound differences between that and the 28 I couldnt remember for the life of me, both were fucking amazing, i just liekd the D-35's feel a lot more and it looks fucking amazing.
PS: the HD was a v neck. I hated it, i have problems with the tendons in my hands and it tended to put unneeded pressure on the tendons.
but like i said, check first if you want the HD or D series, i thought the herringbone looks cheesey up close.
but god, i said it before, that 3 piece back on the D35 is so damn beautiful. OMG.
The HD-28 does not have a V neck. The HD-28V does.

Thanks for the help! I think I'm going to go for a D-35. I think the OM style is just to small and awkward for me to play.
I'm gonna go check this one out next week.

They offer pretty much the best prices around. I remember their prices being hundreds lower than Eldery and Buffalo Bros. Just send them an email or give them a call, they'll be happy to talk to you. Very knowledgable and two of the most down-to-earth guys
