solo/improv or jamming
i can play most dave songs, but i wanna learn how to jam or solo. i just dont know where to start to learn that stuff. i know theory, but thers just so much. someone help
just learn scales and develop an ear for when to play and when to shut up. the best players are the ones that know they dont have to fill their entire 16 measure solo with notes

what scales should i learn. do u know a good site that shows what i should learn?
another question. when u play a solo are you knowing what notes ur actually playing. cuase i play piano and know notes and stuff from that. but say i play like 7th fret on the E string i don't immeadiatly know what note that is. should i learn whatever every fret and string notes are?

listen to lots of good guitarists like warren haynes, trey anastasio, jimmy page, Stevie ray vaughn, and carlos santana and then compare their styles. They are some of the best at building solos that become their own song.

add duane allman and dicky betts to that list. they have unbelievably melodic solos(see blue sky) that are under appreciated. id much rather listen to the allman brothers tell a story than van halen shred the fretboardDavy28 wrote:listen to lots of good guitarists like warren haynes, trey anastasio, jimmy page, Stevie ray vaughn, and carlos santana and then compare their styles.
