This isn't trying to sound mean, but don't worry about playing for the move in day or orientation. Meet people. At worst, meet people who will listen or play with you. LEAVE THE $3000+ GUITAR AT HOME!!!!!

I don't care if your worried about people stealing it or not. Someone will accidently spill a beer on it, kick it, drop something on it, puke on it, light it on fire. I have seen almost all of these things happen in college. Take another guitar or buy a cheap beater guitar.
