ok, well, I'd say really give it time and keep pushing through...it's never something that really comes easy except to a very, very, very select few. It takes great songwriters like Dave, Sting, James Taylor, Paul Simon...all sorts of them, a lot of time to write their songs...they don't just appear out of nowhere. The trick really is persevearance in my mind...I would stress to you that if you try too hard, it's going to be difficult, but if you can come up w/ a good idea first, something you feel you can give an original take on and be transparent on, then you're ahead of the rest. Great songs are born from great idea's first and foremost in my mind. I think you have to learn to really not try too hard after you get a good idea...just kinda let it out...get as much out as you can, and maybe it's ugly at first, but once it's out it's infinitely easier to improve upon...getting it out is the hard part. This is a sick example, but lets say you're musically constipated...you can sit there and eek your way through it at a horendous pace and take forever to get it out or you can pop and lax and get it out there...it may be messy, but atleast it's out and you can clean it up later...terrible analogy, I know, but I couldn't think of anything else. Let me know what you think about that and then we'll go from there...praisedave wrote:originals? with lyrics only about a month, ive been writing original guitar stuff for a whilegcom007 wrote:how long have you been doing it?praisedave wrote:see with me, im so bad at writing lyrics that if i were to write the music first, thus putting limitations on the lyrics, i would never be able to write anything

im not that good with these bands, but what do bands like counting crows and red hot chili peppers do? doesnt the lead singer of those two bands alos write the songs? and doesnt he also not play an insturment? does that make the band have to put music to his already written lyrics? or do those bands make up a melody then the lead singer goes home and writes lyrics?
