You'd like chord theory a lot.
I've been playing a long time. But I grew up playign electric but always in punk bands so I never really learned how to actually play.
About 2 years ago I got my first acoustic (and hadn't played electric in 4 years) because I had been listening to dave so long I got inspired to play.
I only really started playing more than once a week about a year ago.

congrats on getting better! im becoming a lot better myself i started last summer in june... i can't believe i will almost have been playing guitar for a year in two months...
anyway, i became a much better sounding player just overall. like transitioning between chords/notes and everything just sounds cleaner and i can play more accurately then i could before. Anyone who's been playing a while knows what i mean; when u just "sound better"

yeah i just progressed a lot today, yesterday i couldnt play the stone for an entire verse without messing up, then all of a sudden today, i never made a mistake and i can sing and play it at the same, although i need to learn more of the lyrics. im just kinda proud of myself for that
For us living any other ways was nuts. with all the goodie-goodies working shitty jobs for bum pay checks, took the subway work and worried about their bills were dead. they were suckers, they had no balls. if we wanted something we just took it, and if anybody complained twice they got hit so hard believe me they never complained again

Learn some tim reynolds solo acoustic stuff...like selections from See Into Your Soul, or stream. There are alot of good acoustic songs on those albums. When you play some of his songs, which are primarily finger picking beauties, it will help you develop as an acoustic player, emensley. Ive been playing for over 8 years, and i have realized one important thing. Keep Learning songs that are challenging and new to you. Alot of Tims songs are pretty hard, but after practice, they become easier. Then when i go back to playing Dave and Mayer songs, which are relativley easy compared to tim, they are even smoother. By fingerpicking solo acoustic songs, i have become a much better player than i was 1 year ago. Keep learning new and different songs. Not just songs with chord progressions. Finger picking is ESSENTIAL to being a good acoustic player. I know that develping my right finger picking hand, has helped me get better and better. But everyone is different, so play what makes you happy. And always..dont limit yourself to just learning Dave songs....there are so many other great songs. Keep playing.
Peace, tim

Isn't it wierd how it just clicks? One day you wake up and suddenly you have the ability to do something that before you couldn't even get close to. One of the best feelings in the world!
Congrats, and keep pushing yourself!

It's tough. To be able to use two instruments at the same time. Luckily, some people just know how to use their voice naturally. I on the other hand do not, so I am having my gf give me voice lessons. Right now I sound like a dog getting neutered(unsure of spelling). I am hoping she can get me to sound half way decent. Keep working at it, you will get better.
