Alternate tuning question, not how.
If you tune your guitar defferiently, do you need a new scales? How do you know what to play after tuning it?

its hard as shit. the scales stay the same...because. scales are notes, not really frets. If you play in the Key of D (just an example)...then the shapes on the fretboard that you are accustomed to will be different... but the notes are the same. D E F# G A B C#
So.. the scales are the same.
The PLACEMENT of the scales is different.
How do you know what to play? You just need to be REALLY good a knowing where your notes are on the fret board after you change it.. by following you WWHWWWH pattern (w= whole step, h= halfstep)
C>D (W)
D>E (W)
E>F (H)
F>G (W)
G>A (W)
A>B (W)
B>C (H)
I could explain more if you want...

well, there are alot of reasons. As far as soloing goes (like funky riffs and stuff) most people dont change it because they are accustomed to the standard way and its like instinct. The reason some people DO, is because you can make really nice and easy chord shapes.. and
for some kinds of music, open tunings sound really pretty and you can have really nice open chords..
Its a preference thing. My lazy self doesnt do it because its alot more work...
and i like to solo. So standard gives me a comfort zone.

i suppose so. i think i know what your asking. figure out the key, (so you know your root note i guess...) then figure out where to fret them and thats it. solo all you like. soloing in an alternate tuning is very much possible.. its just harder.dmbvideos wrote:I know that WWHWWWH is for a major scale, and WHWWHWW is minor. But do i just jam on those for songs once I figure out the key?
