DGCFAD tuning songs?

Unread post by sbhanot » Mon Oct 20, 2003 4:17 pm

Hey guys - just wondering if anybody knew some good tune in this tuning, which is a whole step down - to be honest, I just tuned my guitar down, and though it takes 2 minutes, I'm too lazy to tune it back up and then down again later, so I'm looking to learn some crap in this tuning while its on it.... wow, I'm such a lazy lazy bitch.... but yeah, I know Ben Harper is good stuff, what else you guys think is sweet?

Yesterday by the Beatles. Why she had to go I don't know, she wouldn't say.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Ok, barely anyone actualy has a tab on how paul plays the song. I tabbed this off of a video from 1964 (on the Beatles Anthology dvds), and from Back In the US dvd. This is how Paul does it.

Code: Select all

-------------------------
 Yesterday - the Beatles
-------------------------

Verse

*For the first time on the G chord, strum down 4 times, the rest, strum
up then down (sometimes down twice), but he varies a little sometimes,
and somtimes when he plays the G chord again, he does it like the first
time he plays it*

d--3--3-- -*2-*2---2--2---0--0---0--0--0--0----------3--3---3--3--0--0-
A-----0-- -----2------0------0------------1---3--3------0------------0-
F-----0-- -----2------2------0------------0------2------0------------0-
C-----0-- -----4------1------2---2--0-----2------0------0------------2-
G-----2-- -----4---2--2---2--2---------3--3---0--0------2---------2--2-
D--3--3-- --2--2-------------0------------0----------3--3---3--2-----0-
* = this might be played open

d--0--0------3--3--3---------------------------------------------------
A-----2---1--------0---------------------------------------------------
F-----0------------0---------------------------------------------------
C--2--2------------0---------------------------------------------------
G-----0---3--------2---------------------------------------------------
D-----0------3--3--3---------------------------------------------------

Chorus

*Same situation as the Verse*

d--*2-*2---2--2---0--0--0--3--0--0----------3--3-----------------------
A------2------0------------------1---3--3------0-----------------------
F------2------2------------------2------2------0-----------------------
C------4------1---2--0--------2--2------0------0-----------------------
G------4---2--2---------3--2-----0---0--0------2-----------------------
D---2--2-------------------------0----------3--3-----------------------

Ending

*Just strum*

d--3----0----0----3----------------------------------------------------
A--0----2----1----0----------------------------------------------------
F--0----0----0----0----------------------------------------------------
C--0----2----2----0----------------------------------------------------
G--2----0----3----2----------------------------------------------------
D--3----0----0----3----------------------------------------------------

Have fun :) .

May be wrong, but doesn't Jimmy Page do this tuning on a bunch of songs, Going to CA?

it' not really an alternate tuning. it's just down a full step. you can play anything you normally play and it will sound 2 notes lower.

some songs are specifically recorded down a step but it's not like learning a new fingering, or like you can't play everything else you've learned in standard.

i don't understand your question. the only reson to tune down like that is 1. personal preference, or 2. to play along with a recording. and the only reason you'd have to switch back is if you were playing along with recordings that go back and forth.
