So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

It started out like this:
LWS 2000 & 2001
Verse
Chorus
Verse
Chorus
Verse
Chours
Middle/Verse
Chorus
Jam
. . . just love that last chorus
Now for Busted Stuff and 2002 dmb
Verse
Chorus
Verse
Chorus
Verse
Chorus
Jam
No intense last one to fisnish it off. It's like a shortened version for Radio, but isn't, still good song.
Now finally D&T 2003 and DMB 2003
Verse
Chorus
Verse
Chorus
Jam
It's like a tease

.
It's a great song, no matter what. I am not really complaining, but I just loved the longer version the most, expecially in the later 2000 versions. I know the band are happy with it, and there must be a reason that they think makes it better, or something, but what? I just really miss the long version of Grey Street.
Just a joke
It turned from a BIG Full Blown Orgasm to a quickie, lol

Yeah, they always trunicate it these days. Maybe they're tired with it, like they were with WWYS in 1995.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

they actually chopped it short on the winter 2002 tour, after the release of the single (which is lacking the verse)...
i think it's sad though, it's such a massive song.
as it stands, best grey streets ever:
7/7/01*
8/4/01
4/7/02
*i was there

but i say this with an objective mind.

but...i have to say i disagree sortof with the way you broke the song down, because the "middle verse" thing you have for the old Grey street, i assume is the "and she walk out in the morning / all the yellow sunlight" part...which did not disappear, it evolved into "she could change every thing about her / using colors bold and bright..."
i'm a fan of both versions, until they made the final cut in late 2002. now it is just like a tease...

that's a good point...kinda like they were tired of recently for a while, so they only played like 2 minutes of it.

I love this song and I was so excited to hear it at the concert I went to, I didn't even REALIZE that it was truncated!

Then I read about it and listen to and... yup, there it was, missing practically half of the song from LWS.
It was still sweet

do you think it might have something to do w/ how much dave likes the last verse. cause that's always the one he dumps. i personally think the verse ties up the song quite nicely, but if you actually read it, the verse really isn't that good. i mean, it kinda sounds like dave just wanted to get the message across and didn't care how. the message is good, but the words aren't dave's best writing ive heard. maybe he just plain ole doesn't like it. just a thought

Hey, FJ might actually be truly, deeply sad. Like I am.

Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away
