I agree that you need to do some originals, but you also shouldnt just do covers that the entire world knows by heart. Pretty much everyone who plays the guitar has learned those songs at one point or another. And, because they are popular songs, they are overplayed at gigs and open mic nights ...

I dont know if you'll find the S6 for under $300. I have a Seagull S6+Cedar and it was more towards $400. Every now and then I get sick of the deeper sound they make but overall I like it. The neck is pretty wide so it helps if you have big hands
