BILLY WESTOM: the strum pattern you added to the Crash tab is awesome.... it's exactly what's needed for ALL Dave tabs.

Do you have strum-pattern tabs for any other songs? Anyone else?

ahhh, good call green. i couldn't tell what he was saying. regardless, i think dave uses about every kind of mute possible, at different times: muting unplayed strings with his left hand, sometimes muting all strings with his left to scrape, and regualarly muting with some portion of his right hand ...

in reference to the debate over whether dave slaps-right or mutes-left, i do recall him saying (rough quote), "i slap so damn much. i've got a little boop. not boob. boop". (Live at Luther???)

anyways, i think it's clear that he does indeed slap (his guitar, not his boob)

the 2step bridge/fill below is a tough little bugger to make sound right. i got the rythem just fine, but putting together the strum pattern with the right strings is throwin me.

if you just downstroke the E,A strings, then up/down/up the G,D,A strings, the sound is constant, which isn't how the ...

CRASH: what seems to sound right to me is:

after hitting each bass note (E or A string), then:

down(pause), up, down, up, down ....on the D,G,B strings, in a fast strum/flick motion

i like the [up,down,up, down] motion (on the D,G,B), instead of [down, up, down, up]. it just sounds right to me ...

this WOULD be a lot easier if dave would just come on over and go, "no dude, ya do it like this." still, good feedback all. i mostly use a pick on my acoustic, but fast stumming hasn't been something i've spent much tme trying to learn, mostly cuz it seems so awkward. but i've recently figured out ...

anyone care to explain how better to learn dave's style of strumming? for instance, the Crash intro. i've got the bass down (the easy part), but after each bass note, the strumming on the D,G,B strings sounds to me like:
