Your guess would be correct. Plus, I need to go the USB route since this is off of a laptop. I've done a little more digging around and I'm now leaning toward a Tascam US-428 http://tascam.com/product_info.php?pid=270&nav=computer_recording . That seems like it would serve as a mixer, preamp, and so...

I don't have mixer at the moment, but won't I be able to adjust volumes and EQ after recording using an editing program? Right now I'm thinking of going with an m-audio quattro http://m-audio.com/products/m-audio/quattro.php . I like this over the Mbox because it has the capability to expand by addi...

That Mbox is cool, but it almost more than I need. I don't need much in the way of studio/editing because I use Acid Pro for that. Also, I'm not real interested in MIDI. Really I just need a sound card that serves as a good interface. Oh, and instruments and vocal are miced by a comination of Shure ...

I don't really know what the standards are so it is hard to say. A couple of hundred is no problem. I would like something that would give me some good crisp sound for solo acoustic stuff. Full-band is somewhat secondary.
Thanks for the input.

Help choosing sound card for PC

So I just ordered a new laptop that is going to be used solely for the purposes of recording. Can anyone recommend a good external sound card for me? I'll be recording my own solo/acoustic stuff at home, as well as some full band (standard rock set up) in various locations. Is there something else y...

oo what's the LP studio look like? is it one of the limited color ones? i almost bought one in january, but i was lacking enough money :P I didn't really dig the limited colors, although that pewter finish is baddass. Mine is a fireburst. [url]http://www.gibson.com/products/gibson/lespaul/images/lp...

Since you play classical I assume you are a good finger picker. If so, I would recommend a banjo. I got one a while back and it is really a lot of fun. Also, it is a cool thing to pull out if you're doing an acoustic gig.

what to play on new electric

So, I just got a Les Paul Studio and it is my first electric. I've been playing acoustic for a few years and my repetoire doesn't work on an LP like it does on my Martin. Can you guys recommend some good fun tunes to help me get some electric technique down? So far I've played all the Zeppelin I can...

Thanks for the response. It is a road series auditorium body. Perfect for a lot of finger picking that I do. I think 000-M is the model number. I have no idea when it was made but i got it brand new last year. The marks are definately bearclaw and not scratches, because they have always been there. ...

Is Bearclaw Good or Bad???

My Martin has some prominent bearclaw in the sitka top and I was wondering what you all think about this. I've heard good and bad. My tone is awesome, so I don't think it could be that horrible of a thing. The worst part is people always think that I've scratched up my baby. Any info to relieve my c...

it's actually not that difficult on the banjo. it's hard, but most of his stuff with the 'tones is way more difficult. 5-strings rule.

i saw him open for them and also saw him headline in a really small venue which was one of the best shows i have seen. he fingernails are fairly nasty, but he does some cool stuff with them. do you think he has a stage presence similar to dave? kind of that nervous "sorry if i suck" sort of thing.
