the stone.....

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

the stone.....

Post by paywad927 »

after hearing yall play this song soooo well in the contest i decided i would give it a shot. i got the rythym (sp?) down alright, but i really need to work on the muting. i noticed that dave mutes the low E and A strings with his ring finger. when i tried this my ring finger would always bend and move whenever i moved my pinky, so its almost impossible to keep it still and mute those strings. does the ring finger eventually straighten out like that after practicing?

how long did it take for yall to get the song down with muting and everything?

(p.s. i did do a search but couldnt really find anything that helped me)

yes your ring finger does eventually just straighten out. during the chorus of stone, its the same technique as he uses in stay and in last stop. its really just something you have to work on. if you're talking about the verses, he doesn't mute, he just hits only the strings he has to. Dave has the ability to look like he's strumming but only hit the strings he needs, also comes w/ practice. as well as learning how to play the song, it only took me a day or so to learn how to play the whole thing. but to learn how to sing it took a bit more.

Also, when you do get it and get to play it for the ladies...use the "I can't help falling in love w/ you" addition...chicks dig that. That is if you're a guy. I'm assuming :D

I know a lot of people don't use their ring finger to mute, I just only hit the strings I am supposed to on that part, it is really difficult to get your finger to stay still
