sattelite (sp?) strumming question

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

It's all equal timed downstrokes, and just muting the strings not being played

No its not..watch Farm Aid 2001 .he plays satellite and is "strumming" hitting the notes on "equally timed downstrokes"

he could play it really well though and just hit the notes..but he still does it with the downstrokes

Of course, by muting I meant with the left hand, not the strumming hand :)

thats exactly what i was thinking...i was playing it the other day and i tought it to my cousin and realized how much easier it is to just sort of strum wildly and just mute... though it takes A LOT of practice

Though, of the video's I have seen (Storytellers), Dave is just doing downstrokes, I still do picking just because it is so much easier, and once you get the hang of it, faster.

anyone care to tab out exactly how (which fingers) dave mutes with when strum-picking Stone, Satellite, Warehouse or other relevent song? i have the general concept, but how in the hell do you make it sound so smooth. i can pick the stone just fine using alternate picks, but the strum/mute thing sounds really hard, particularly when muting strings above the played string (like muting the E and A strings on Stone. how?

thats just too much trouble man. a lot of people have been asking questions around here about muting specific strings and what not, thats just not worth it. if you learn every song by trying to mute exactly the right strings at a specific time, then the song would be impossible to play because you'd be in the mindset of "i have to play it this way". i've seen so many beginner guitarist with sheets of tabbed songs that have upstroaks, downstroaks and muting written out. when they play these songs, they have no feeling or rythme to it. you have to just try it. no one can show you exactly how to do it (especially over the internet). just try many different things and practice, practice, practice!
