you probably need to adjust your truss rod. my Godin used to do it before i did that. sometimes your action can be too low.

Could be that you wore down the fret at that position. You need them filed down or replaced if that's true.

thanks for the reply's, but i actually realized something new yesterday. it only does it on barre chords, and its not only on the fifth fret. open chords sound fine, but the a and e strings buzz on barre's. any ideas?

Seriously though, let me know how it turns out if you squeeze harder on the strings...Push them down as hard as you can and let me know if it helps!

try humidifying your guitar if you don't already, i was having a similar problem, i humdified it, and it went away. but don't wait too long, because damage is harder to undo the longer it goes on. you can humidify the body with a humidifier you can buy in the store, and you can also make one yourself for the neck.
get a soap-box, or something similar. then dampen a sponge, put it inside, cut some small holes, and leave it in the case for a week or so.
i hope that helps

DO NOT CUT HOLES ON BOTTOM OF SOAP-BOX!

definitely keep us posted. it is winter and so it's really dry...give it a few days and check to see if any improvement occurs with each day.
