Why I am tabs

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Why I am tabs

Post by TSilk »

has anyone given this song a stab yet? It sounds like a g power chord for the riff then for the end of the riff"it goes C-B, I can't decide if it's like raven with the 8xx9xx then 7xx9xx or 40 with the x3201x - x2001x. Thoughts?

Good call, that sounds good, I just didn't know which variation of the C-G and dave uses that all the time (rapunzel). Thanks

I haven't seen any of the videos but when I was messing around with it i heard something like a G octave 3x5 and playing it kind of like Immigrant Song something like

D--------5-------------5---------
A---------------------------------
E--3--3----3---3---3-----3------

then to the c b

but i don't have the greatest ear

Well, looks like you guys have most of it figured out. A few other things, I came up with the same progression for the intro, that is also played a few times right after he says "still dancing with the groo grux king", it's the momentarily happy little part that makes you think of Bob Ross painting happy little things. The only other part is the chorus part. it's simply F, Am, C, G. Think the "ashes to ashes" part on gravedigger, it's very close except. I think that's the whole song, good job team! If someone is less lazy then I am, they would put all of this together.

Click on the thumbnail of Carter and watch that vid.

Dave plays all the parts to Why I Am in the middle of the video. They even show him playing it after a minute of hearing it, and it looks a little different then the tabs I've seen.

Looking at live videos on Youtube, Dave is not playing this:

Code: Select all

Groogrux King
--------------------------
--------------------------
--------5----------7------
-----5----------7-------5-
--3----------5----------5-
------------------------3-
he goes DOWN the neck, but I am not sure what he plays exactly. However, it sounds like Tim might be playing what is tabbed.

For the 'Why I am' chord progression, it sounds like he's doing something like this:

---x-----x-----x---
---x-----x-----x---
---9-----7-----4---
---0-----0-----0---
---7-----5-----2---
---8-----7-----3---

Haven't been following the videos, but heard this song for the first time live on Saturday night. COMPLETELY rocked!

I think I figured out the "big whiskey" part:

Code: Select all

e|----------
B|----------
G|--9----7--
D|--0----x--
A|--x----5--
E|--8----x--
It's either that or something along the lines of that I saw a video where I could see his hands on the big screen. Since lights were flashing, I couldn't be 100% sure this the exact fingerings. It could be:

Code: Select all

e|----------
B|----------
G|--9----7--
D|--0----7--
A|--7----5--
E|--8----5--
But my gut tells me it's the first one.

This looks like what Dave plays after the final chorus following his line "Still dancing with the Groo Grux King"

Code: Select all

e|-----------------
B|-----------------
G|----------5---0--
D|--3---7---5---0--
A|--3---7---3---2--
E|--1---5-------3--
